A fundraiser has been set up for one of the men who was injured in the terrorist attack on a Manchester synagogue on Yom Kippur.
Andrew Franks was seriously injured when terrorist Jihad Al-Shamie, wielding a knife, rammed shulgoers on their way to Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation with his car, before trying to break into the synagogue.
Al-Shamie was prevented from entering by members of the community, who held the door, before being shot by the police.
Two men, Adrian Daulby, 53, and Melvin Cravitz, 66, died during the attack. Police said that Mr Daulby was killed by a bullet fired at Al-Shamie by police marksmen.
Andrew is one of three people who remain in hospital after being critically injured.
According to Jonathan Patoff, who is organising the fundraiser, Andrew was volunteering on security and “was viciously attacked by the terrorist and received serious head, neck and face injuries as well as a number of broken bones”.
On Jonathan’s gofundme page, he writes that Andrew “sadly lost his wife Rama in March of this year to cancer, leaving him as the sole parent of Tamara who recently turned 16”.
He added that Andrew “is a quiet and unassuming good man, who behaved heroically in defending the congregants of the Heaton Park Synagogue, giving others time to lock the door and save lives. The physical and mental scars of his selfless heroism will take time to heal.
“I am looking to raise funds to help him and his daughter financially during this time. Any donation will be gratefully received.”
Jonathan said he was aiming to raise £20,000. To donate, click the link here or go to: gofundme.com/f/andrew-franks
