The family of a father with an aggressive form of cancer is raising funds in the hope of going abroad for a liver transplant in a bid to save his life.
James Conradi, 38, from Radlett, Hertfordshire, has a rare auto-immune disease called PSC (Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis) causing liver cirrhosis, and, more recently, has been diagnosed with a type of cancer.
He and his wife, Laura Kay, 41, say that a transplant would allow James “20 more years of memories, birthdays, laughter, and love” with her and their son, Harrison, nine.
Laura has launched a GoFundMe page to appeal for both donations and a potential living liver donor.
The £250,000 which they are aiming to raise will go towards the transplant surgery, the donor surgery, hospital care, travel abroad, accommodation and post-operative treatment.
They are searching for someone who has an O blood type, which accounts for around half the UK population. The person also must be fit and healthy and not have drunk alcohol in the last six weeks.
The donor would donate half of their liver; following the operation, the half-liver would regenerate in both James’ and the donor’s bodies.

James told the JC: “I have been utterly overwhelmed by the support to the GoFundMe and by the very special people who have come forward to be potential living donors for me.
“I desperately want to beat this to be here for my son and my wife for many years to come, and what it’s shown me is how, when a desperate situation arises, good people can come together to try and save a life and a family.
“I have to believe we will get on the other side of this, but if not, then I know we fought as hard as we could with the incredible support of family, friends and strangers. Thank you to everyone. I hope to be here to tell my story on the other side.”
“This is truly a matter of life or death,” said Laura. “Every donation – no matter how big or small – brings us closer to giving James the chance to live.”
