Ezra Aaron has claimed his first trophy as a professional footballer after he helped Boston United win the Lincolnshire County Cup.
Playing 80 minutes of their 3-0 win over Grimsby Town, Aaron said: “To represent a professional club, against a League Two side who had beaten Manchester United in the Carabao Cup earlier in the season, stands out as my biggest career achievement thus far.”
Playing his part as the club won the competition for the first time in nearly 20 years, he said: “Boston is a club with a strong fan base and to see supporters get excited about this win is really special. There’s a certain buzz around the town and on social media and it’s been nice seeing people come up to say hello in the supermarket or kids asking for photos by the side of the pitch after the win. Moments like that make it feel like our hard work is creating a positive effect locally.”
Equally as delighted with his performance, he continued: “It was great to start in such a big match and I felt I had the beating of the Grimsby right-back, getting forward and putting crosses into the box especially in the first half. The second half was more about the defensive side of the game, communicating and making early decisions with our left-back on which Grimsby player to pick up when they made clever movements.
“It was a tough challenge, but one we really thrived on. We were glad those players played as it only added to the occasion and the opportunity to show we can compete and win at this level. Rather than being intimidated, we used that as motivation and embraced the challenge.”
As to what the future – and next season – holds for the 21-year-old winger, he added: “Ending the season on a high gives me confidence and I’m looking to kick on next year. I’ve enjoyed this season at Boston, and with decisions still to be made, it would be great to be part of a League Two promotion push if I’m here next season.
“There have been some conversations about potential opportunities abroad, which I’d be open to if it’s right for my development.”
