Jewish Care is to close its Finchley home Rubens House.

Delivering the news to the 33 residents and their families, charity chief executive Daniel Carmel-Brown said: "We have decided that now is the right time to close Rubens House. This is an opportunity for us to provide residents with a better environment in any of our other Jewish Care homes that are local to Rubens House. In addition, it will increase Jewish Care’s efficient use of resources."

Jewish Care said the home was built to meet the care needs of a different generation. The needs and aspirations of care home residents had dramatically changed.

Its priority over the coming months will be to ensure residents and staff are supported. Jewish Care has five other residential care homes within a three mile radius of Rubens House, with the capacity to accept all Rubens House residents. The home will not close until they have been relocated into suitable accommodation.

Jewish Care says it is not planning any redundancies because of the closure. The aim is to relocate the 61 staff to existing vacancies or new positions across Jewish Care resources.

As well as owning Rubens House, Jewish Care is the freeholder of the attached building, Shine House, which is leased and managed by JLiving. Jewish Care will work with JLiving to consider the building's future.
