Barnet FC has become the first professional football club to host a Tackling Antisemitism in Football training workshop for its first team squad.
The session was run by Maccabi GB in tandem with Lord Mann, the government’s independent advisor on antisemitism.
First-team players and coaching staff were privy to a presentation and various informative booklets about antisemitism.
Mann said that the session “represents an important milestone” and that he would like to “commend Barnet FC for setting a strong example and demonstrating their commitment to ensuring that their club is an inclusive place for all”.
Ben Sweiry is overseeing this project at Maccabi GB, and said of the session: "The opportunity to provide a first team training session for Barnet Football Club on antisemitism in football was indicative of the inclusive atmosphere I experienced at the club.
“The team were thoroughly engaged in the session and being in an area with a significant Jewish population, it was very meaningful to have them in our workshop.”
Barnet CCO Daniel Martin thanked Sweiry and his colleagues for their time, saying that the workshop “was extremely eye-opening and covered a lot of important ground in a short amount of time”.
The Bees are currently 14th in League 2, sitting just four points behind the play-off spots, in their first season back in the Football League since 2017/18.
