Sacks is a very experienced and successful player having represented Great Britain at a number of Maccabi Games, and is just the type of person who can step into the gap left by Scott McGarvey.

Andy Hatton will support Sacks. Hatton assisted Scott McGarvey last season and thus provides a certain level of continuity with the squad.

Maccabi 1st team start the new season in mid-August, earlier than normal, and Sacks cannot wait to get going, and has already spoken to most of the existing squad and some potential additions.

He said: “This is a great honour for me.  For many years I have dreamed of managing the 1st team, and can’t wait for pre-season training to start and getting the players into shape.

“I think we have an excellent group of players and hope that the next few seasons will be a golden era for the club.”

Maccabi chairman Ade Kay commented: “When we met Michael, he left a fantastic impression of what he hoped to achieve and how he was going to do it.

“Michael will be a very enthusiastic and forward-looking manager, encouraging young players to stake their claim in Maccabi’s top side.”

The senior section at Maccabi intend to run three teams, and are currently putting the rest of the managerial team into place, and an announcement is expected with a couple of weeks.

Training will start in mid-July, although it is  expected that the 1st team might start a little earlier.
