JC GOAL OF THE WEEK: THE CONTENDERS

- ADAM ABADI (Lions B) - hunted down the Raiders centre half, knicked the ball off him and from 25 yards out to the right side of the box unleashed an early bullet of a strike along the ground catching the Raiders keeper off-guard and sending Lions 3-1 up

- AVI MARKIEWICZ (RC UK FC) - collected the ball 30 yards from goal took a couple touches and then lobbed  the keeper with a fantastic chipped effort that dipped just in time to hit the top corner

- BEN LAUFFER (Oakwood A) - caught keeper out with a screamer from 35 yards

----------------------

----------------------

JC SAVE OF THE WEEK: THE CONTENDERS

- DANIEL BEHAR (Lions B) - wonderful goal-line clearance against Raiders

- YOSSI LANNING (Finchley City) - outstanding double save from a Scrabble penalty

- ELLIOT JACKSON (Oakwood A) - brilliant penalty save to protect his clean sheet. The only shot he had to save all game

----------------------

----------------------

JC TACKLE OF THE WEEK: THE CONTENDERS

- MAX HASSELL (Lions A) - a list-ditch sliding challenge to prevent Hendon scoring, what was a clear open goal as the game drew to a dramatic close. A tackle that was as good as any goal Lions scored

JC QUOTE OF THE WEEK: THE CONTENDERS

- AVI GARSON (Faithfold B) - "It was a good game of football, surprisingly quite free-flowing but a shame it wasn't played on a football pitch. It felt like we were playing in the swamps of Bangladesh. An absolute mudbath. But considering the shocking conditions the football on show was of pretty high standard..."

- SAM MARCHANT (Lions B) - "To go far in cup competitions you have to beat the best teams at some point, and we’ve done that today in a wonderful manner to get through to the semi-final"

- SAM ROSE (NL Raiders C) - "Pre-match I spoke to my boys about taking each game one at a time. We also spoke about showing Catford a different side to the one they’d been reading about in recent weeks. And we showed that today. With character and application to win every ball and work together as a team we showed that Raiders aren’t done with this season just yet"

- JOEL HOLDER (Finchley City) - "For the past few months, I have congratulated the collective effort of the squad. We are a brand new team that is improving every week. To be in the semi-final of a competition in our first season is a testament to the quality of the players we have throughout the squad. The boys really deserve a lot of credit and are buzzing to know they are now one game away from a final at Wingate"

- JONO NESBITT (Hendon B) - QUOTE 1 - "This was another case of us not being out best. We got stuck in the second half and defended far better but still lacked any quality up front. Maybe we should place an ad in the paper for a new super striker while the window is still open"

- JONO NESBITT (Hendon B) - QUOTE 2 - "Credit to Oakwood who not only played good football on the day but all officiated the match due to our referee being injured. Both teams assisted the chosen Oakwood player with the decisions by being professional and honest throughout and we cannot complain with any decisions on the day. A throughly good job all round by Oakwood"

- DAVID GARBACZ (Hendon A) - "Lions were always going to put out a strong team – I have no complaints about that at all and we expected it, but we were easily good enough to beat them if we would have been just a bit more savvy when things started to go wrong. Slowly but surely their big guns like Max Kyte and Adam Arnold took control"

YOUR WEEKEND REVIEW STARTS HERE:

CYRIL ANEKSTEIN CUP QUARTER-FINALS

MACCABI LONDON LIONS A 4 HENDON UNITED SPORTS CLUB A 2

Hendon's double hopes were quashed as they saw their cup hopes ended at Rowley Lane for the second time this season, as Lions A proved too strong by running out 4-2 winners.

SEE MATCH PHOTOS

Hendon forged into a 2-0 lead at half-time via Josh Harris and Moses Seitler, but the Lions hit back in style to win it with goals from Austin Lipman, Adam Burchell and a brace from Adam Arnold.

SEE VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS

Hendon boss David Garbacz told JC Sport: "I accept full responsibility myself for the defeat – we should have shored things up earlier once we looked like we were losing the momentum but instead we were far too gung ho and were chasing the game unnecessarily.

"Ultimately though, we came away full of regrets and out of both competitions and without a final to look forward to in either cup for the first time in years. Lions were always going to put out a strong team – I have no complaints about that at all and we expected it, but we were easily good enough to beat them if we would have been just a bit more savvy when things started to go wrong."

NORTH LONDON RAIDERS A 2 MACCABI LONDON LIONS B 4

Two goals from Josh Bloom saw first division Lions B cause the surprise of the day as they sent holders Raiders A crashing out of the competition. Adam Abadi and Benji Weinberger added the gloss on a memorable day for Sam Marchant's men.

Ben Ellis and Matt Stock registered for Raiders.

A proud Marchant told JC Sport: "Today’s performance was one of heroes. Actually, of legends. The passion, commitment and determination by every single player was truly awesome. Every single man was awesome today and it was a true team and highly spirited performance. To go far in cup competitions you have to beat the best teams at some point, and we’ve done that today in a wonderful manner to get through to the semi-final."

Raiders boss Dan Shafron told JC Sport: Congratulations to Lions B who were the better side. We wish them the best for the rest of the competition and their season."

SCRABBLE FC 2 FINCHLEY CITY 3

Finchley City reached the last four of the League Cup for the first time after edging a five-goal thriller against first division rivals Scrabble FC, thanks to a late winner from Alon Pinhas.

Jono Gaon and Sam Leader were their other scorers in an action-packed encounter, which included goalkeeper Yossi Lanning keeping out a penalty from Josh Bharier.

Jubilant Finchley boss Joel Holder told JC Sport: "For the past few months, I have congratulated the collective effort of the squad. We are a brand new team that is improving every week. To be in the semi-final of a competition in our first season is a testament to the quality of the players we have throughout the squad. FC TEAM A 2 BRADY MACCABI 7

SAM CASTLE was the hat-trick hero as Brady Maccabi moved into the top five after completing a league double over FC Team.

There were also goals for Reiss Mogilner (2), Nathan Harrod and David Cohen as Brady ran riot.

Rich Sternberg and top-scorer Richard Salmon struck for FC Team.

Brady joint-manager Eli Dagul told JC Sport: "This was another vintage performance considering the conditions. We were aggressive from the off and took control with an early goal. Goals have become an ever-present part of our game this season and I'm sure this gives the squad confidence going into next weeks Rowley Lane derby."

WOODFORD WANDERERS 0 OAKWOOD A 7

Ben Lauffer scored twice as Oakwood A destroyed Woodford 7-0 to finish the weekend top of the table.

There were also goals for David Woolman, Rafi Stone, Dale Bradman, Jonathan Quinn and Leor Sidle as the mighty Oaks made a real statement of intent, with goalkeeper Elliot Jackson capping a clean with a brilliant penalty save.

Oakwood joint-manager Dan Kristall told JC Sport: "We are hitting form at the right time. From the first minute to the last, we totally dominated this match. When we struggled against Woodford at home in November, although we did not look like conceding, we just didn’t have the attacking threat of Wine, Sidle and Lauffer. All of whom they couldn’t cope with yesterday. It was great that the goals were spread around the team."

ATHLETIC BILBAUM 0 REDBRIDGE JEWISH CARE B 2

A deadly double from JC star man Matt Berkley helped Redbridge B extend their perfect record to eight league matches as they overcame Bilbaum.

Boss Sam Rank told JC Sport; "We go into a mini break where we can get some injured players back and improve more on our quest for title.

Hendon joint-manager Jono Nesbitt told JC Sport: "This was another case of us not being out best. We got stuck in the second half and defended far better but still lacked any quality up front. Maybe we should place an ad in the paper for a new super striker while the window is still open."

OAKWOOD B 3 HENDON UNITED SPORTS CLUB B 0

Oakwood secured their fourth league win of the season thanks to two goals from James Abrams and one from super-sub Rafi Bloom as they eased past Hendon B.

Delighted Oaks boss Jason Stein told JC Sport: "We're obviously pleased to get back to winnings ways although we know tougher tests are right around the corner. We played well for large parts of the game today and it's always good to see Oakwood legend James Abrams scoring goals.

"I was clear in my preview that I wanted to give President Obama the send off he deserves and we did that today."

MILL HILL DONS 1 REAL HENDON 2

Strikes from Benni Sluckis and player-manager Chaim Gothold helped Real Hendon leapfrog the Dons after a hard-fought win at Mill Hill Park.

Raffi Adelstone saw his brilliant 30-yard free-kick crash against the bar, before Zach Cohen set up a grandstand finish with a goal for the visitors.

Dons boss Brandon Hamme told JC Sport; "We got complacent and didn't take our chances again and Real Hendon improved as the game went on.

"We will look to pick ourselves up for the next game in two weeks and hope that we can recapture our form from the end of 2016. I think we were unfortunate to not come away with a point from the game but we far from our best."

REDBRIDGE JEWISH CARE C 0 L’EQUIPE 0

Defences dominated in east London as table-toppers L'Equipe drew a rare blank against an organised Redbridge C.

L'Equipe boss Nick Stern told JC Sport: "It was a fair result and great battling performance."

RJC manager Josh Hambling told JC Sport: "Overall I'm gutted we didn't get the win as I thought they were there for the taking today, but defensively we were fantastic even with the changes made through the game. Captain Craig Phillips and powerhouses Jordan Sapler and Josh Cohen were again pivotal displays for the team."
