JC QUOTE OF THE WEEK CONTENDERS

- SIMON LINDEN (Temple Fortune) - "This win marks 50 years as a football club and will be one that Nigel Kyte and everyone associated to the football club from day one will enjoy"

- JACOB EMANUEL (Hertswood Vale) - QUOTE 1 - "My only real qualm today was with the fact that we weren’t allowed to play out the full match. I thought the referee had a decent performance and kept control of the match throughout, but due to the injury pre-game, and the fact that the pitch was booked straight after for another match, he was forced into a situation that shouldn’t happen on a Sunday morning – he apologised to me after the game that he didn’t add on an additional “4 or 5 minutes” of time that we were due because he was under pressure to finish the game, and get us off the pitch. I’d be naïve to suggest we would’ve equalised, but it would’ve been fair to have had all the additional time that we deserved added on. A freak situation, but of course there is a sense of feeling hard done by"

- JACOB EMANUEL (Hertswood Vale) - QUOTE 2 - "I’m a huge fan of Temple Fortune – finding ourselves in our 3rd season, and the continuous challenge that we face with putting out a competitive team each week, I can’t imagine being able to do that for 50 years. Simon & Steven have done an excellent job, deserve their plaudits and we wish them all the best for the rest of the season"

- BRANDON HAMME (Mill Hill Dons) - "We were obviously in the festive spirits as we started gift wrap some goals for SPEC just in time for Christmas, with three goals which were very avoidable"

- RICKY LAWRENCE (SPEC FC) - “In what certainly was a game of two halves, I can only heap praise on all 13 players involved today. MH Dons had some nice comments about us after the game and we can only echo those comments about being a decent team and they could possibly have been out of sight early in the second half. However, other than maybe our equaliser, our other goals were out the top drawer and Josh Green & Zack Neiman gave their back four a really tough morning"

- RAY ABRAHAMS (Scrabble FC A) - QUOTE 1 - "Lions were on a different planet to us today and it was like watching Man City play Leyton Orient! You always know any game against Lions is a mountain to climb but today we used the game to see the new players and I now know my strongest squad going forward"

- RAY ABRAHAMS (Scrabble FC A) - QUOTE 2 - "We’ve got 7even cup finals left, 21 points to play for and to stay in this Division. I'm convinced the great escape is now there for us to grasp and we have to make sure we start picking up the points we need to pull ourselves clear of the bottom two places"

CYRIL ANEKSTEIN CUP ROUND TWO

HENDON UNITED SPORTS 3 NORTH LONDON RAIDERS 1

Hendon United overcame first division North London Raiders, claiming a 3-1 win at Hadley FC thanks to efforts from Josh Harris, Yehuda Korman and Rocky Spitzer.

United boss Jordan Sapler missed the match, but later told JC Sport: "“By all accounts this was a tough game, it was a battle for the first 40 before we took control."

Hendon went 1-0 up early in the second half but Raiders responded well, with Yarden Sharon equalising on the counter-attack. It was 1-1 until the 80th minute where Hendon bundled home a corner and as Raiders started to tire and throw men forward to try drag the game into extra-time, Hendon ended their hopes with their third on the counter.

"We went toe to toe with the best Jewish team and outplayed them for large spells, leaving Hadley feeling very hard done by," according to joint-manager David Isaacs. "The defensive unit was rock solid and the midfield battled well. We should have been 3-0 up at half time but we didn’t do ourselves justice with some wayward finishing. The boys can hold their heads up high, knowing if we play like this against Los Camden A we will be a force to be reckoned with in the other cup. Special mention to Jake Yudelowitz, who had his best game in a raiders shirt this season, keeping Zac Lewis out the game to the point Lewis was subbed off after 70."

DC Prediction: Hendon 2 NLR 0

MACCABI LONDON LIONS 16 SCRABBLE FC A 0

REISS MOGILNER hit six of the best as Maccabi London Lions registered a sweet 16 against first division Scrabble A.

DANIEL GREEN and MICHAEL KENLEY scored a hat-trick apiece, while further strikes from Ed Brafman, David Dinkin and Adam Hassanali completed the rout.

Lions joint-manager Max Kyte told JC Sport: "We wanted to make sure we were sharp and focused from the off and had an aim to put the game to bed as quickly as possible. We know in a cup game anything is possible. The boys were great and mature throughout, working hard throughout the full 90 and trying to play as good football as possible. Credit to Scrabble, they never let their heads go down and stuck together as a team for the whole game, coming close on a couple of occasions, including hitting the bar. Reiss Mogilner was fantastic in front of goal, claiming two of our four hat-tricks on the day.”

Scrabble manager Ray Abrahams told JC Sport: " With the season we’ve had, I was in two minds whether or not to forfeit as the prospect of facing Lions in the Cup was a game we could have done without. We'd signed eight new boysduring the week so the result was in some ways irrelevant. In the end 16 boys turned up and considering that most of them only met at 9.20am on Sunday morning and didn’t know each other’s names, we needed to take a look at everyone and used the game as a training/practice session constantly rolling on and off players so we could see what they could do."

OAKWOOD B 1 NORTH LONDON GALAXY 2

Goals from Josh Cohen and new signing Jacob Leigh saw North London Galaxy move top of Division One for the first time following a hard-fought win over Oakwood B in Wembley.

Oakwood's goal came through Rafi Bloom following superb wing play from Zac Summerfield.

Galaxy boss Luke Lewis told JC Sport: "It was a fantastic performance in a must-win game. We went down to 10 men early as Jamie Murray saw red. It was a performance José Mourinho would have been proud of."

Oakwood's Simon Field told JC Sport: "Defensive mistakes cost us the points against a very good North London Galaxy side. We were much improved, but failed to create the chances to finish the game off, and ultimately we were caught on the break. A lot of work to be done in order to stop the losing rot."

MILL HILL DONS 3 SPEC FC 4

Zack Neiman (2) returned to the top of the goal charts after firing his 17th and 18th goals of the season in SPEC's seven-goal thriller against the Dons. Josh Green and Sam Martin clinched the victory for SPEC.

Jubliant SPEC FC player-manager Ricky Lawrence told JC Sport: “In what certainly was a game of two halves I can only heap praise on all 13 players involved today. MH Dons had some nice comments about us after the game and we can only echo those comments about being a decent team and they could possibly have been out of sight early in the second half. However, other than maybe our equaliser, our other goals were out the top drawer and Josh Green and Zack Neiman gave their back four a really tough morning.”

Jordan Stein, Sam Stead and Nicky Phillips replied for the Dons who led 1-0 and 3-1. Disappointed Dons boss Brandon Hamme told JC Sport: "If there was ever a game to sum up our season it was this one. This game should have been dead and buried in the first half, we had chance after chance but we were just our own worse enemies by not taking advantage."

NORTH LONDON RAIDERS MASTERS 3 FAITHFOLD DOC MM B 5

Aviel Schwarz marked his return to the MGBSFL with two goals, but it wasn't enough as Faithfold produced a five-star performance to finish the weekend top on goal difference.

The red-hot Benny Goldberg (2), Gav Noe, Gilad Kestenbaum and Motty Korman struck for Faithfold, with Wayne Davidson registering the other for Raiders.

Faithfold's Doron Shooter told JC Sport: "We produced a very good first half but not such a great second half for us. We had a makeshift back four, due to the fact that I went off injured after 20 minutes, and that Gilad was playing with a minor injury today. Raiders had a lot of chances to score and it could have very easily been a different game today but we the most important thing is the three points and we move on to a massive game next week against FC Team."

Raiders' player-manager James Cartmell told JC Sport: "We closed out the game much on top, having created a series of chances, and perhaps deserved better."

TEMPLE FORTUNE 2 HERTSWOOD VALE 1

A deadly double from Jacob Kalms earned Temple Fortune a shock success over table-toppers Hertswood Vale.

James Millet scored his 17th goal of the season, but it was Fortune celebrating at the final whistle.

Jubilant Fortune boss Simon Linden told JC Sport; "This was a fantastic win giving the circumstances. We had a number of players out - I lost 2 more overnight and then the keeper Ben Rebuck who discolated his shoulder in the warm up. This put us down to 11, I couldn’t have asked any more from the players. It’s a big win and one we will enjoy and hope to build on in 2019."

Vale joint-manager Jacob Emanuel told JC Sport: "It doesn’t matter how big a squad you have, you can never account for unavailability or injury, and with only five of today’s 13 playing in last week’s win over FC Team, a lack of togetherness and poor individual performances let us down. We know that on our day, we’re capable of beating anyone in our league, but that’s just it, it wasn’t our day at all and Temple Fortune played a perfect game to thwart us and frustrate us at every possible opportunity."
