Haisam Hassanein graduated from Tel Aviv University last week. Born in Egypt, no one was more surprised than him to be giving the valedictorian address for the International Master's students. But his speech was a beautiful expression of multiculturalism, acceptance and questioning the status quo.

He says in the video: "The people I was taught to think of a my enemies were transformed into my teachers, classmates...

"Israel, before I knew you I didn't like you... but I never expected my enemies would accept me into their country."

He finishes his speech with a lesson: "After a year of countless surprises...being here in Israel has taught me that life is full of complexities... We must always dig deeper. The only thing one should truly expect from life is for life to defy your expectations."
