Zahavi scores against Colombia

articlemain

Midfielder Alex Zahavi scored a debut goal for the US Under 20 team in a 1-1 draw with Colombia. Zahavi also scored in a penalty shoot-out as the US lost 4-3 to Mexico in a friendly tournament.

Zahavi has previously played for the Portugal Under 17 team but FIFA allows players under 21 to switch allegiances.

The Maccabi Haifa starlet was born in the US and has Israeli citizenship through his father and Portuguese citizenship from his mother. His late grandfather, Avraham, is a first cousin of the agent Pini Zahavi.

The 19-year-old, who has played for Arsenal and Barcelona schoolboys, joined Haifa in the summer from Sporting Lisbon. He has played two Toto Cup matches but has yet to make his league debut for the Greens.
