Another hat-trick from Marc Yaffe helped South Manchester produce their best performance of the season against unbeaten Village in terrible conditions on Sunday.

With a mini-injury crisis engulfing the South squad, a change of tactics worked fantastically and the three in midfield on Stewart, Cantor and Parry provided the platform for the rest of the team to express themselves brilliantly.

A tight first half with few chances ended goalless, but South believed that the Village were there for the taking and within the first 10 minutes their pressure paid off with a penalty being awarded. Adam Lavin missed, but Marc Yaffe followed up and continued his current run of goals.

Ten minutes later Lavin came into his own and scored not one but two contenders for goal of the season - the first a left foot rocket into the top corner from 25 yards and the second a brilliant deft finish with the outside of his foot.

South took their eyes of it soon after and disappointingly allowed Village back in the game. However, the trio of Lavin, Levy and Yaffe continued to cause the Village defence all sorts of problems and Yaffe superbly completed his hat-trick with two quickfire goals to put the game to bed.

It was a great victory for South against one of their title rivals as they continue to try and win the league for an unprecedented third year on the trot.

South boss Jody Marks said: "From the first until the last minute we were outstanding. Going into the game with a few of our players missing, I was hugely impressed with the way we stepped up a level to defeat a team who have outclassed everybody to date on our league.

"This victory sets us up nicely and after seven games we sit nicely at the top with only one defeat to date. Special mention to Yaffe on his third hat-trick of the season and to Tom Cantor who was superb and stopped everything in his way, including a post (we are all hoping his model esq looks haven't been ruined).
