articlemain

Kerem have won the first-ever Maccabi GB Primary Schools Year 4 Netball Tournament.

Five schools attended the tournament bringing nine teams to compete at London Maccabi in Rowley Lane. In total 80 girls participated in the tournament

The teams were split into two groups for the first part of the competiton. The two semi finals produced some exciting netball matches with lots of goals scored.

Ultimately it was Kerem and Clore Shalom who would play out the final. The final itself was a close game and both teams played well. Kerem struck first to take the lead and in the second half extended their lead further, but Clore Shalom responded well and fought back with a goal midway through the second half to set up an exciting finale. Clore kept pushing for the equalising goal, but in attacking they left space in their defensive third and Kerem managed to work a quick play on the counter attack and scored their third and decisive goal.

The afternoon finished with a sporting medals presentation to both finalists and the trophy was awarded to the winning Kerem side.

Matt Travers, Manager of Maccabi GB's Sports Department, said: "At Maccabi GB we are always looking to provide new sporting opportunities to the Jewish community. We spoke to the schools about starting this new tournament and they were keen to give it a try so to see 80 girls here today is fantastic and we hope they will continue participating in MGB tournaments throughout their school life."
