On-loan Bradford City midfielder Dean Furman is fully focused on getting the club promoted after scoring his first goal for them.

Since joining on a six-month deal from Scottish champions Rangers, Furman, 20, has played a key role in the team’s title push.

He found the net with a fine left-foot strike from the edge of the box, helping the Bantams come from 2-0 down to draw at Luton, and was delighted to do it in front of his watching family and friends who had made the trip to Kenilworth Road.

“It was a nice feeling to get off the mark,” he said. “I’m not sure why it has taken me this long to score, but hopefully, it will be the first of many.”

The South African international also admits that playing first team football at Bradford has helped make him a better player.

“Being involved and playing regularly for the first team has been really important for me and I am learning all the time,” he said.

“Back at Rangers I was playing a lot in the reserves but in this league every game and every point is vital.”

His loan deal at Bradford finishes at the end of the season. But he is not concerned about making the move permanent and is concentrating on helping the team into League One.

“At the moment I’m here until the end of the May and in that time I hope that we can clinch promotion,” he said. “I’m concentrated and focused on helping Bradford win games.”

As well as playing a lot of football, Furman is enjoying living in Leeds and mixing with the large Jewish community and universities.

Football seems to run in the Furman family’s blood as Dean’s younger brother, Jake, has started to develop himself in the Wingate & Finchley first team. Dean believes that the 19-year old is at the right club to help nurture his talents. “Wingate is a great club and I have watched him a few times. He’s doing really well, and I sometimes see him do things on the pitch that I wish I can do.”
