We have unfinished business, says Tyler

articlemain

Jon Tyler is looking forward to a very strong attendance at the training and trials session at a Rugby Club in South West London.

Tyler, who is the Chair of the Team GB Rugby Squad for the Maccabiah Games in Israel 2013, believes that the squad has some unfinished business. He was also Chair of the squad in 2009 when they won silver following a narrow defeat against Australia in the final.

The Training and Trials session will be run by Head Coach Simon Culley, who also coached the 2009 squad and is now Head Coach at Northumberland Uni.

At next year’s Maccabiah Games there is also the good possibility of an Under 18 squad for 15s and/or 7s rugby so a good number of younger players are coming to the session as well.

There is even a possibility of an Under 16 competition so there is also a contingent of youngsters attending the training.

The 2009 Open squad had a mixture of ex-professional players, semi-pros, good amateur club players and very good school leaver 1st XV players – all of whom combined to produce a team judged to be able to hold its own at National 2 level by the time they played the competition in Israel. The youngest player was only just 18 years old and the oldest was 41. Culley expects the quality to be at least as high this time.
