Warm reception for Avram Grant at Chelsea

articlemain

Portsmouth manager Avram Grant was given a warm reception upon returning to Stamford Bridge for Wednesday night's top against bottom clash in the Premiership.

He responded by applauding the crowd and mouthing 'thank you'.

But the former Chelsea boss was able to mastermind a result as a 79th penalty from Frank Lampard helped the leaders restore their three-point advantage at the top.

"It was nice [to return to Chelsea], the supporters have been very good to me since I left, and I will always have a bond with this club.

"We played tactically well. I'm very, very proud of our performance today.

"If we continue to play like this, we will be off the bottom."

The south coast club even had chances to win the game, and it is not often one can say that of a team visiting Stamford Bridge.

Portsmouth host Liverpool on Saturday.
