Daryl Phillips, the assistant-manager of Faithfold A, felt that poor finishing prevented the Superhoops from taking maximum points in the top of the table clash against title rivals Redbridge A.

In a game in which Faithfold hit the woodwork twice and had a goal disallowed, Phillips reflected: “We’re disappointed not to have three points as we had the better chances. It was a good game between two good sides.”

A new-look Faithfold team featured brothers Alex and James Taylor, lining up alongside James Frenner and Paul Savitz at the back. Recent signing Benji Dymant, who had his best game for the club, linked up well with Matty Kleinman.

Faithfold started the better with David Lederman striking the bar with a free-kick from 30 yards. They came close again soon after when Lederman’s cross was headed against

the woodwork by the in-form Paul Lenchner.

The deadlock was broken when good work from Daryl Phillips and Savitz allowed Lederman to cross for Lenchner to send a downward header into the net from an acute angle.

RJC rarely troubled the home defence and Dymant missed a golden opportunity to double Faithfold’s advantage on the stroke of half time, denied by the onrushing Jay Jaffa in the Chigwell goal.

Redbridge started the second half like a different team, putting the greens under pressure.

Summers smashed home the equaliser in controversial circumstances as Faithfold appealed for offside but the hosts did not let their heads drop and they regained the upper hand minutes later as Lenchner curled an acrobatic shot around the keeper and into the net.

Summers hauled Redbridge level for a second time with a predatory strike and although Faithfold finished the stronger, Redbridge held on for a share of the points although they were made to sweat as Faithfold had a goal disallowed for a push on Jaffa. Phillips said: “We had the chances to win it and will have practiced our finishing in training this week. That’s for sure.”
