Manchester Maccabi 3-0 Worsley

Having only played in cup competitions so far, Manchester Maccabi started their league campaign in front of large crowd at Brooklands on Sunday.

Manager David Nadler made just one change from their previous game with Rafi Leker in for the unavailable Ashley Loofe. Maccabi started well and knocked the ball around in confident fashion and only good keeping from the Worsley keeper kept out efforts from Lavin, Sidle, Stevens and Warwick. Addis and Tucker at the centre of Maccabi's excellent defence thwarted Worsley's efforts.

Maccabi almost took the lead on the stroke of half time when Lavin volleyed superbly into the Worsley net only for the effort to be ruled out through a controversial offside decision. At half time, Manager Nadler urged his players to be patient and to keep playing their high tempo football. He was to be proved right early into the second half when Sidle broke clear from a superb Stevens pass and finsihed in magnificent fashion. With a few minutes, Maccabi stretched their lead when Leker lobbed the Worsley keeper for a sensational goal.

Worsley had looked a good footballing side until this second goal but then lost their heads with some ill disciplined tackiling which forced referee Darren Brown to show several yellow cards in quick succession. Maccabi kept their discipline and their third goal was the best of three superb efforts with a number of passes culminating in Stevens sending Lavin clear and his finish left the Worsley keeper watching in admiration as the ball nestled in the corner of his goal.

There were outstanding performances from Addis and Tucker in central defence, Bentwood who had a superb game as the anchor man in midfield, Sidle and Lavin who had great games in midfield and up front, but the man of the match was Adam Stevens who covered every blade of grass and had a magnificant game. The large crowd certainly enjoyed Maccabi's entertaining performance.

Next week, Maccabi are back in County Cup action against Swinton at Littleton Road, 11am kick off.
