Three cheers for Crumpsall

Crumpsall claimed a comfortable 3-0 victory in the basement battle against Westdene 2nd to climb above Oakhill in the Joan Collins Premier Division.

Ben Kayzer and Ben Burton dominated proceedings for Crumpsall’s, controlling the midfield and ensuring that the home side were unable to impose themselves on the game.

It was no surprise when Crumpsall capitalised on a poor clearance from Dan Caplan as they had an effort cleared off the line before Shiran Kramer picked up on the loose ball to score from a tight angle.

Shortly after it was 2-0, Shlomi Friedman tapping home at the far post with his left foot after a neat period of play from the visitors.

It was one-way traffic as Westdene struggled to create any clear-cut chances. Crumpsall wrapped up the points with 20 minutes to go when Shya Haltern took advantage of a scramble following a free kick to stab the ball home.

It could have been four within a minute as Crumpsall missed a penalty following a handball on the line which saw Westdene reduced to 10 men.

Crumpsall manager Zevi Saunders was happy with the performance, and in particular for the fact that they kept a clean sheet – the first time Crumpsall had achieved such a feat since May 2009.

“I was really pleased with the quality of our football and I only hope that we can try and reproduce that against tougher opposition and maybe we’ll get a few more points.”

Westdene boss Paul Levy now has a tough task on his hand as he looks to rebuild confidence ahead of this weekend’s crunch game with second from bottom Oakhill Lions.
