The JC team of the year

articlemain

After a long, hard season, London Lions, North West Neasden A and London Maccabi Lions were the top dogs down south, while up north, Haroldeans and Oakhill Lions added silverware to their trophy cabinets. But it is London Lions who dominate Danny Caro's team of the year.

Goalkeeper Danny Berliner retained his status as No. 1. Mr Consistent helped Lions 1st and Reserve teams clinch silverware. He was also in goal when the JC MSFL Rep Team won the London Inter-League Cup, although he has since had to return his medal because the team played ineligible players. Danny also helped Hendon United A finish runners-up in the Maccabi League Premier Division and in the JC Cyril Anekstein Cup.

At right back I've gone for Daniel Cole. Another member of the Rep team, the London Lions and North West Neasden star enjoyed a barnstorming campaign, finishing with three pieces of silverware. Also comfortable on the right side of midfield, the 2009 MSFL Young Player of the Year got through a ridiculous number of games.

Oakhill Lions are represented by Alex Kaye, the JC MJSL Player of the Year. Kaye played at the back and in midfield for Lions and he hit the winner in the Feldman Trophy against Haroldeans.

In the middle are Jonny Ellis and Louis Basger. Nicknamed Mad dog, Ellis won my vote for MSFL Player of the Year after a standout performance. He's the John Terry of Jewish football with no-nonsense defending complimented by a happy knack of scoring crucial goals.

Basger, a former South Manchester Maccabi defender reminds me of Alan Hansen; calm under pressure and always trying to play football out of defence.

I've gone for a mixture of brain and brawn in midfield. Craig Ellis was a key player as Wingate & Finchley reached the Ryman League Division One playoffs. The Maccabiah star also played a few games for London Lions at the business end of their Herts Senior County League campaign.

Scotland is represented in the shape of Laurence Judah. The Jewish Duncan Fletcher helped FC Team reach the final of the London FA Junior Cup.

London Lions' Daniel Stanton is one of the most naturally gifted Jewish footballers around. He popped up with some crucial goals towards the end of the season and is the kind of player I would pay to watch.

Up front, I've gone for three foxes-in-the-box of the highest order. Adam Stolerman was one of the main reasons London Lions won the HSCL. He has been in a league of his own, scoring tap-ins and wonder goals for fun.

Alongside him is Leeds J-Uni sharp-shooter Oli Grant who won the MJSL Golden Boot. James Gershfield brings youth to the team. His quality and goals aided London Lions and Neasden this season. Lions' Tony Gold is my manager of the year, steering the team into the South Midlands League for the first time.
