BRADY WHITES 4 BRADY REDS 0
Goals from Sam Linch (2), Jack Durban and Ryan Lipman inspired Brady Whites to a 4-0 success in the inter-club derby against Brady Reds.
Sunday saw the 2013 kick off with a Brady Maccabi under-11 derby match between the Whites and the Reds played out at The Ark Academy, Wembley.
These matches are historically very tense and tight affairs with both teams desperate to claim the bragging rights and this match started no differently. However, the Whites were slow to get into their rhythm and soon found themselves on the back foot as they were caught on the counter-attack by the Reds swift penetrating football.
Charlie Crowe in goal for the Whites had to be alert as he was called into action on a number of occasions as the Whites defensive pairing Jake Taibel and Nathan DaCosta found the Reds forwards more than a handful.
However, as the first half progressed the Whites started to get to grips with the occasion and were able to string some of their own passing moves together. Danny Leboff found some space on the left he could exploit, Adam Morris started to take more control and began to link more with Samuel Jaffe who was starting to ask questions of the Reds defence.
However, it was not until halfway through the first half that the Whites were able to truly make their mark on the game. Following a double substitution, Sam Linch came on in attack and Jack Durban entered in his favoured right wing position. Almost immediately the game swung the Whites way. Durban was first to make his mark being set free inside the Reds penalty box only to crash his thunderous shot straight at the Reds goalkeeper.
However, within a minute Durban again found himself in a goal-scoring position on the right hand side and this time there was no mistake with his clinical finish breaking the deadlock.
No sooner had the Whites taken the lead than they went 2-0 up following a lovely floated corner from Jayden Meranda which Linch met neatly with his head only for it to be saved first time, but Sam was there to place the rebound beyond the keeper's reach.
The Whites did not sit back on their lead and made it 3-0 straight from the restart when a neat pass from the playmaker Jamie Brooks found Linch in a threatening position on the left-hand side of the penalty area and even though he had options to cross, he opted for goal himself and arrowed in his shot low at the near post beating the keeper to claim his second and the Whites third goal.
A fourth goal for the Whites came just before half time when this time Ryan Lipman found himself on the left-hand edge of the Reds penalty box, he jinked past a tackle before lashing home to score his first of the season.
The second half was much tighter with both teams trading attack and counter-attack with both keepers being called into regular action. None more so when with seven minutes to play the Red’s striker Max Appleby found himself one-on-one with the Whites keeper Charlie Crowe. Both boys rushed full pelt and with brave abandonment to claim the ball but both only succeeded in clattering the other leaving the pair sprawled on the pitch, each with nasty leg and knee injuries. The game was stopped for both to be given treatment but neither could continue. However, even though the game resumed, the match was effectively over and the day belonged to the Whites.
Brady Maccabi Whites manager Perry Linch said: "It was a great game played in tremendous spirit by both teams. However, if truth be told the Whites won the game because our finishing was just that bit more clinical than the Reds when it mattered. It’s something we’ve been working on in training so it was good to see some of that bearing fruit."
