Maccabi GB has selected the Open Rugby Squad that will travel to Israel next summer as part of Team GB for the 18th Maccabiah Games.

The squad is as follows: Ben Allin, Jonathan Brasse, Sam Castle, Benjamin Chamberlain, Andrew Cooke, Neal Fetterman, Jonathan Fienberg, Mike Filson, Simon Filson, Matthew Frankfurt, Andrew Gillman, Haydn Hertz, Jonathan Jacobs, Samuel Katz, Ryan Kaye, Aaron Liffchak, Dean Miller, Jake Norman, Mark Pettit, Aaron Radley, Samuel Rhodes, Robert Seltzer, Nathan Taylor, Guy Tyler, Saul Zulman.

The team will be managed by Jonathan Seltzer and Jon Tyler and they are delighted to have retained the services of the coach from 2005, Richard Hodges, who has recently been appointed to the position of Welsh National 7's coach and he will be assisted by Nick Mortimer who is a Hertfordshire County Coach.

The manager, Jonathan Seltzer, says that the squad is a good mixture of youth and experience and contains 11 players from the last Maccabiah, one of whom, Haydn Hertz, also played in 1993 and it also contains full-time professional Aaron Liffchak of London Welsh who has obtained permission from his club to play in the Maccabiah. The team finished 4th last time, just out of the medals but have high hopes of attaining medal status this time round. No GB Rugby Team has yet achieved a Maccabiah Gold Medal, the nearest was the 1989 team who won the Silver Medal but Jonathan Seltzer believes that this squad has the ability to go all the way in 2009.
