Team GB 2 Oakwood 2

Team GB began their pre-tournament preparations with a 2-2 draw against Division One winners Oakwood.

The result was particularly pleasing for managers Phil Peters and Jamie Slavin as it was the first time the team had played together, and in addition to several of the squad being out of the country, the majority of the boys had already played 90 minutes in the morning.

The game was a tight and cagey affair for 60 minutes with both teams making use of the rolling-subs as preparations for the EMFT and Morrison Final began.

GB broke the deadlock through Rob Blackman who was enjoying the freedom in the middle of the front three and whilst Oakwood hit back with two quick goals, Josh Green’s smart finish from close range secured a deserved draw.

Peters told JC Sport: "There's a great team spirit already forming and the squad’s biggest strength is its versatility – the boys we’ve picked are all multi-dimensional and have the ability, and willingness, to play wherever Jamie and I ask them.

"I was particularly delighted to see Josh Green score the equaliser in the last minute after watching him play 180 minutes yesterday without any personal reward – but it was a great team performance against a very strong Oakwood side – we wish them the best of luck in the final."
