First division Woodford avoided a shock in a hard-fought win over Division Three high-flyers FC Team C.

On a muddy pitch, Woodford kept possession and Team were under siege in their own half. Team's defence led by Jamie Breslaw and Eitan Ben-Zion were resilient in a game where they were called into action constantly. The man between the posts for Team was commanding and pulling off some spectacular saves to keep the score at 0-0.

The east Londoners dominated throughout with lack of conviction in front of goal, but a shock was on the cards as the hosts forged ahead when David James Cohen capitalised on a slip by Adam Poole to open the scoring.

However, Woodford carried on trying to pull down Team's defensive wall. With no subs, Team became weary. Woodford came out fighting with 30 minutes to go and in the 80th super-sub Joe Summary scored a fantastic goal to get them level with only 10 minutes left.

Woodford kept on fighting with and senior striker James Ryan chasing the ball down to score with a deflection off FC Team keeper Mike Myers.

Woodford manager Paul Hyams told JC Sport: "It was a great cup game and a deserved win for the Wanderers. Hopefully a little run could lead to something special for us this season and I want to take this form in to the league."

FC Team joint-player-manager Michael Myers told JC Sport: "For the past two weeks Team have had a depleted squad due to injuries and availability. However, we have shown strength in depth by narrowly losing out to higher division teams in the cups.

"It was a back-to-the-walls job today. Team were unlucky to lose in that manner but Woodford deserved the win, the better team on the day.

"FC Team will now concentrate on ensuring promotion, still unbeaten in the league our mind's our focused on the Division Three title."
