A hat-trick from NIGEL SOMMECK inspired Jewventus to their first win of the season as they beat fellow strugglers Boca Jewniors at Chase Lodge.
Anyone in attendance at the early kick off was gifted with a thoroughly entertaining match. Although goalless until the hour-mark, chances were not at a premium.
Jewventus broke the offside trap on a couple of occasions in the first half only to find Boca keeper Ryan Monk in top form - pulling off a couple of fine saves. It was almost a case of third time lucky for Jewventus but they was thwarted by the offside flag.
It was very much a counter-attack threat from Boca’s front men as the quick breaks had the Jewventus defenders struggling to keep up, but none of the shots would not be enough to trouble the Jewve shot-stopper.
The second half was much of the same with Jewventus applying much of the pressure with a succession of corners and long throw-ins, none of which could carve out a clear-cut opening with the Boca defence holding up to the
constant aerial threat from some strong Jewve presence in the box.
Boca once again showing they had the chance on the break, one shot-come-cross narrowly missing the far post.
Boca following up neat interplay from Joel Levitt and Jamie Weinrich, which resulted in the latter side-stepping his marker to smash his shot firmly against the inside of the post.
However, it was the Jewventus who broke the deadlock not long after when a tame shot was blocked and then fumbled by the keeper which left an on-rushing Jewve player with a simple finish.
A last-ditch clearance off the line by a Boca defender direct from a corner and a Jewve penalty which was fired over via the crossbar only served as a delay, as a flick on from a set-piece was followed up at the back-post to make it 2-0.
Boca huffed-and-puffed to get back into the game, but after a quick-fire double, one another penalty after a rash challenge in the box settled any possible nerves.
The Boca players know it’s a game of 90 minutes, the last five of the game was still being played at a frantic pace, where Joel Newman played in Jamie Weinrich down the left to beat the full back and cross into Simon Gold for a nice finish from the penalty spot.
Boca Jewniors' Farrell Monk told JC Sport: "I felt that my team were fashioning better chances, especially on the break, but after winning a lot from countless corners and throw-ins, we
weren’t able to take the ball up field for our attackers to cause more effective damage.
"The game could have swung either way right up until their goal, but we need to learn to keep the floodgates closed.
"I am pleased with the spirit of our team to keep the effort up throughout, despite going 4-0
down.
"There are certainly positive to take forward and we are very much so looking forward to facing Jewventus again this Sunday.
A delighted Gabriel John told JC Sport: "All in all a good day at the office for Jewve, and a return leg comes as early as next week, so we'll be hoping for more of the same."
