GOAL OF THE WEEK: THE CONTENDERS

- DAN ABRAMS (Faithfold B) - laced it from 30 yards and it "knuckleballed" right into the top corner. An absolute beauty

- OLI HAMBLING (Redbridge C) - latched on to a great pass to place a brilliant 25-yard chip over Sam Castle's head

- JOSH BLOOM (ML Lions B) - a cute lob over the Catford keeper

- JONTI AREMBAND (RCUK FC) - pick of the goals was a 30-yard screamer from Aremband that flew over the goalkeeper's head leaving him with no chance

- OLIVER SADE (Finchley City FC) - best piece of individual brilliance his boss, Joel Holder, has seen. A free-kick delivered in the box and Sade flicked the ball over his head on the volley into the top corner. Sheer outrage and genius

- DAN GREEN (Scrabble FC) - picking the ball up out wide Dan evaded two or three tackles before hitting a screamer into the roof of the Raiders net from 35 yards to make it 2-2

- NICKY WOOLF (NL Raiders B) - GOAL 1 - a speculative lob over keeper Ben Law in the Scrabble goal

- NICKY WOOLF (NL Raiders B) - GOAL 2 - a stunning long-range effort on 20 minutes

- JOE DAVIS (Los Blancos) - a 20-yard bullet after a well-worked build-up

-----------------------------------
-----------------------------------

JC SAVE OF THE WEEK: THE CONTENDERS

- SAM SINGER (Mill Hill Dons) - stunning scooped one-handed diving save low down - a la Seaman vs Sheffield United

- NATI KIND (RCUK FC) - two Brixton players bearing down on goal with what looked like a certain goal but RCUK's cup keeper Nati Kind, came out, spread himself well and then pulled off unbelievable save from the first man and followed it up with another stunner at the feet of the second

-----------------------------------
-----------------------------------

JC QUOTE OF THE WEEK: THE CONTENDERS

- JOSH HAMBLING (Redbridge JC C) - "At no point did it feel like we couldn't match them on the pitch and I'm so proud of my boys for the effort they showed today"

- SIMON LINDEN (Temple Fortune) - "We were completely Fogeled - he must have thought Chanukah had come early, we gifted him three goals on the plate"

- JONATHAN ADELMAN (NL Raiders B) - "We had a specific game-plan, and executed it to perfection for most of the first half, and then forgot about it for the second half!"

YOUR WEEKEND REVIEW STARTS HERE:

CYRIL ANEKSTEIN CUP ROUND TWO

REDBRIDGE FULL OF EASTERN PROMISE
WOODFORD WANDERERS 1 REDBRIDGE JEWISH CARE B 2
Strikes from Adam Goldman and Craig Sandford inspired Redbridge B to one of the shocks of the round as they beat Premier Division Woodford 2-1, just as predicted!

Woodford's goal came via Tom Alexander.

Woodford boss Daryl Kay, who is now running the team on his own following Jerome Marks's decision to concentrate on playing, told JC Sport: "Once again depleted numbers cost us dearly this week, despite being 1-0 up. We had no subs and Ell Gold had to stand in as goalkeeper, and even though we were the better team for the most part, key players missing in key areas meant we couldn't capitalise. Both of their goals came from mistakes from our GK but that's not the whole story, we could've been 3-0 up in the first before Redbridge even had a shot. Not a good day for us, but we have a couple of weeks off now so our injured players can rest up before giving our season the kickstart it needs."

DC Prediction: Woodford 1 RJC 2

OAKS STRIKE IT RICH
MILL HILL DONS 1 OAKWOOD B 5
First division class told as Oakwood B handed Mill Hill Dons another hefty defeat to move smoothly into round three, courtesy of a treble from JACOB RICHLER KLEIMAN.

James Abrams and Rafi Bloom added the gloss as the Oaks registered their first win of the season.

Oaks boss Jason Stein told JC Sport: "Credit to Mill Hill Dons who put up a good fight especially in the first half. And to the goalkeeper who is absolutely exceptional and made some really good saves.

"It's pleasing to get a first win and hit the reset button on what has been a frustrating start to the season in terms of performance and lack of fixtures. We're off the rota next week so that's a shame.

"We took a big squad for today for a reason because we wanted all the lads to embrace a fresh start and get games in their legs. We got on better as a unit today and worked hard. We went far in the Anekstein last year and it would be nice to do so again."

DC Prediction: MHD 1 Oakwood 5

FORTUNE GET "FOGELED"
FAITHFOLD B 5 TEMPLE FORTUNE 3
RICHARD FOGELMAN was the hat-trick hero - making it 13 goals in three games - as Faithfold B won the battle of the second division teams following an eight-goal thriller against Temple Fortune.

Fogelman's tally saw him chip the keeper, score another from 20 yards and convert from the penalty spot. Rafael Meyers and Dan Abrams added the gloss.

Jordan Sharifia (2) and Brett Stead replied for Fortune.

In the post match analysis on the WhatsApp group David Garson praised his team's efforts: "Best performance of the season and we're really starting to play for each other now. Now we need to carry this form onto next week."

Fortune boss Simon Linden told JC Sport: "It was not a good day in the office. Next week can't come quick enough to put Todays performance right. Good luck to Faithfold in the next round."

FC TEAM SCRAPE THROUGH
FC TEAM B 2 HERTSWOOD VALE 1
FC Team B secured their second victory in this season's Cyril Anekstein Cup after past Hertswood Vale.

FC Team "won by the skin of their teeth," according to Vale joint-manager Jacob Emanuel, "in one of the most frustrating and dire games of football to ever grace the MGBSFL."

With a first start of the season granted to co-manager Jack Shulman at centre half, it was no coincidence that Vale started the game brightly, playing some great football across the park, and deservedly took the lead in the 13th minute thanks to a tidy finish by Josh Gorb, from a brilliant through ball from Elio Elio.

However, unlucky number 13 came back to hurt Vale and they dropped off, their standard plummeted and FC Team graciously accepted two goals.

Gorb was denied by the in-form FC Team goalkeeper before a poor second half which featured "a very strong defensive performance from both teams meant very few chances were created and the game came to a very slow and painful halt".

Emanuel went on to say: "More distressing than the result was two worrying injuries to Charlie Hollis and Josh Gorb. We wish both players a speedy recovery, as our list of unavailable players appears to echo Arsenal's of recent seasons.

"We lick our lips at the prospect of facing Liam Stein's Raiders next week."

DC Prediction: Team 2 Vale 1

SUPER SADE SEES OFF FAITHFOLD
FINCHLEY CITY FC 4 FAITHFOLD A 2
Three goals from OLI SADE and one from Josh Aziz saw Finchley City win the all-Division One clash after coming away with a 4-2 victory over former winners Faithfold A.

Finchley boss Joel Holder told JC Sport: "It was a battle on the pitch today. Faithfold are a physically strong team and at times overzealous (7 yellow cards). They tried to bully us, but could not compete against a well-drilled and technically superior Finchley City team.

"We knew we were in a game after 10 seconds but the boys kept their heads and played them off the park. We went 1-0 down from a controversial penalty decision, but our equaliser was worth the entry fee alone. When the free-kick was delivered in the box, Oliver Sade attempted the most outrageous Ibrahimovic flick-volley that sailed into the top corner. No superlatives can accurately describe what could arguably be the goal of the season. Sade was simply unplayable today and was influential all over the park.

"It's important to highlight good individual performances, but at the same time the collective effort from the team was superb and we were worthy winners. These are the types of performances we expect and are now showing on a consistent basis. We look forward to good cup run this season and hope to reproduce the same form against Lions B next week."

DC Prediction: Finchley 3 Faithfold 2 AET

DERBY DELIGHT FOR UNITED BOYS
HENDON UNITED SPORTS CLUB A 3 REAL HENDON 0
The Hendon derby was much closer than anticipated, with the Premier Division team progressing after a 3-0 success through strikes from Josh Harris, Zac Lewis and Avi Korman.

Hendon boss David Garbacz told JC Sport: "We ran out pretty comfortable winners although Real Hendon put in a very good battling display for the whole 90 minutes and never let us run away with things at all.

"On another day we may have scored more goals and ran out more emphatic winners, but today I was particularly happy with the clean sheet - our first of the season - and overall we did what we had to do to progress to the next round.

"It was nice to play against some of the old ex-Hendon boys - Motty Korman still showed his younger brothers Avi and Yehuda a thing or two and Martin Smulovitch was very solid at the back. We wish them all the best for the rest of the season. We move on to next week's non=Jewish cup tie still with our 100 per cent record intact for the season and whilst that is the case we are more than happy."

Real player-manager Chaim Gothold told JC Sport: "We battled well against an excellent Hendon team."

DC Prediction: Hendon 6 Real 0

HEROIC HERSH SENDS BLANCOS THROUGH
HENDON UNITED SPORTS CLUB B 1 LOS BLANCOS 6
A deadly double from Adam Hersh sealed a memorable win as Blancos finally showed their true class with an immense performance - hitting Hendon B for six.

Darren Russell, Jeff Gross, Joe Davis and Joel Kutner completed the demolition.

Blancos boss Nick Grosse told JC Sport: "Since I took over as manager and added several players to the squad, I have been waiting for that "click" and it arrived today. From defence to attack we were fluid. Our defensive positioning was spot on, our passing was slick and our finishing was top quality. I am so proud of the lads today."

DC Prediction: Hendon 2 Blancos 3

LIONS B SHOW CATS WHO IS BOSS
MACCABI LONDON LIONS B 5 CATFORD & BROMLEY MACCABI 1
JOSH BLOOM (3) helped Lions B condemn Catford & Bromley to their first defeat of the season with a comprehensive 5-1 victory at Rowley Lane.

Benji Weinberger and Ed Brafman also found the net as the Lions made easy work of the Division Two high-flyers. Joel Lassman grabbed a consolation for the Cats.

Catford's consolation came through Joel Lassman.

Lions boss Sam Marchant told JC Sport: “Our performance today was much better than that of previous weeks. We’ve been getting results and not playing too well, but today we played better and the result came with it. We were clinical for the most part, but could have had more on another day, especially hitting the woodwork twice.

Cats player-manager Jeff Gotch told JC Sport: "We were beaten by the better team ... end of."

LIONS IN SEVENTH HEAVEN
LONDON MACCABI LIONS A 7 REDBRIDGE JEWISH CARE C 1
Former cup winners Lions A breezed into the next round at the expense of second division Redbridge C at Rowley Lane, with goals from Alex Bowman, Alex Taylor, David Cohen, Sam Arghebant, Ben Goldberg, Dominic Cheniart and Sam Lewis.

Oli Hambling consolation for Redbridge was fitting off the occasion on the top pitch, chipping Sam Castle from 25 yards.

RJC boss Josh Hambling told JC Sport: "Having a bare 11 against a Lions team is not ideal to say the least. In a game where we knew they'd have a majority of possession we tried to keep it tight for the first half.

"Letting a goal in from a fantastic cross it has to be said after five minutes was exactly what we didn't want to happen. Not to mention Jimmy Castle pulling up after 15 and playing on we had 10.5 men. We always new with pace up top we could cause them problems and that's exactly what happened with our goal.

"We conceded just before half time and the game stayed at 2-1 with 20 minutes to go. Our defensive structure and pressing was superb from back to front resulting with Lions playing long balls and swinging crosses in all over the place. However, fitness started showing and a few silly errors crept in with them scoring four goals in 10 minutes then a seventh right at the end.

"At no point did it feel like we couldn't match them on the pitch and I'm so proud of my boys for the effort they showed today. Credit to Lions who played some lovely football and rightly deserved the win. Back to the league next week where it matters and we'll be going for another three points."

DC Prediction: Lions 3 RJC 0

PLAIN SAILING FOR HOLDERS
NORTH LONDON RAIDERS A 9 L’EQUIPE 0
Braces from Dave Cohen, David Dinkin and Matt Stock guided cup holders Raiders into round three as they crushed L'Equipe 9-0.

Further strikes from Liron Mannie, Liam Stein and Ben Ellis completed the rout.

NLR boss Daniel Shafron told JC Sport: "It was a good, comfortable performance. With respect to L'Equipe, it's hard to say much more than that. It could have been well in to double figures but we did what was needed and now look forward to our non-Jewish cup game next week."

L'Equipe boss Nick Stern was keen to put the experience behind him and told JC Sport: "We look forward to returning to league action next week."

DC Prediction: NLR 3 L'Equipe 0

ICE-COOL CAMDEN CHOP DOWN OAKS
OAKWOOD A 0 CAMDEN PARK 0 (Camden won 5-3 on penalties)
Rapidly-improving Camden Park enjoyed a memorable morning as they knocked out highly-fancied Oakwood A after a penalty shoot-out.

Josh Marks, Rob Hershkorn, Ben Harris, Kane Gilbery and Jake Saunders all successfully converted from the spot for Camden, with goalkeeper Steve Murad saving Oakwood's fourth attempt.

Jubilant Camden player-manager Max Saunders told JC Sport: "We went into the tie with a game plan, to defend deep, soak up pressure, frustrate Oakwood and then hit them on the counter. By the end of the 120 minutes we really should have scored and won the game."

Oaks joint-manager Dan Kristall told JC Sport: "We progress and try to take the positives of exiting the cup at such an early stage, we can now focus on to the league. In some ways, it makes our season simpler and helps us prepare for each league game without any distraction of the cup.

"We move on to three league games in October so let's see where we are before the crunch game with Hendon on November 6. Don't write us off just yet!"

RCUK FC 6 BRIXTON OLD BOYS 0
Aron Luftig and Jonti Aremband hit doubles as new boys RCUK FC backed up my claims of an upset with a 6-0 routing of first division Brixton.

There were also goals for Avi Mocton and Dudi Edryei as RCUK ran riot with six second-half goals.

RCUK FC player-manager Avi Markiewicz told JC Sport: "Critics may say that we played 10 men and that was a result that always should have been, but Brixton are an experienced team and we are brand new and coming off the back of a couple of disappointing results."

Scrabble manager Ray Abrahams told JC Sport: "We showed strength commitment and loads of character today to come back from 2-0 down to win this game. All 16 guys did us proud and after losing to Raiders in the first game of the season this has also been mentally a great result for us."

NLR joint-manager Jonathan Adelman told JC Sport: "We had a specific game-plan, and executed it to perfection for most of the first half, and then forgot about it for the second half!"
