Sporting are just like Stoke, says Domb

Hyde Park boss David Domb has labelled Sporting JLGB as the MJSL’s very own version of Stoke City.

Rovers face Sporting in the second round of the Peter Morrison Cup on Sunday and Domb is expecting a bruising encounter against Gavin Sharpe’s troops.

Hyde Park saw off Sporting 4-0 in their last meeting but the Rovers boss is anticipating a far tougher test against what he claims to be the Jewish equivalent of Tony Pulis' side.

“I’ve always said Sporting are a bit like Stoke because they battle really hard and know how to win games,” he said.

“They get stuck in and are a physical side but they’ve also got some very good players who can hurt you.

“They rely on Rafi Bloom for goals and that’s no surprise because he’s a fantastic player and one we’ll have to watch.

“But it’s not all about Rafi because they have a lot of good players who can hurt us if we’re not careful.”

Rovers have struggled in recent weeks and look to have no chance of catching Haroldeans at the top of the MJSL after the recent 3-1 defeat against the Merseysiders.

And while Domb accepts his team has little chance of winning the Morrison Cup, he is desperate for his players to get through this round and set up a tie with a London-based club.

“We need to save our season somehow and this is a welcome distraction,” he added.

“They say it’s the Jewish FA Cup and perhaps we can have a sprinkling of that famous cup magic for ourselves.

“We’d love to go to London and play a team down there, especially for guys like me who are from down there and played in those leagues.

“But first of all we have to beat Sporting and that’s going to be a tough ask.”
