CRICKET Mark Blackston is the Northern Jewish League player of the season. The Bury & Whitefield all-rounder helped the team win the NJCL Cup. Huddy Lieberman received the young player award. David Cohen won the top player award in the Under 14 category.

CHESS Israel took silver, their first ever medal, after beating the Netherlands at the Chess Olympiad in Dresden, Germany.

FENCING Amy Hyman of Woodside Park, North West London, took gold in the foil at the London Youth Championships. She will now go forward as one of the favourites to the national final at the end of January at RAF Cosford near Wolverhampton.

SWIMMING Reut Benaim, 13, a member of the Swiss Cottage club and pupil at the Southbank International, won the 50m butterfly in the ISA (Independent Schools Association) Championships.
