CATFORD & BROMLEY MACCABI 3 JEWDINESE 1

Goals from Adam Luria, Gab John and Jamie Sinai guided the Cats to their sixth win of the season in front of the JC cameras at Norsemen FC.

Jewdinese came out fighting and were probably the better team for the first 10-15 minutes, but without creating any clear-cut chances. From then on the Cats woke up and pushed on.

They took the lead from a penalty after Jamie Sinai was bundled over in the area and Luria converted. The lead was doubled when a Gabriel John corner flew straight in.

Catford continued to create chances, with Guy Ben Aroya in goal only really tested from distance, seeing them comfortably through until half time.

Jewdinese came out looking to get back into the game and got an early goal back. Although they put together some decent passing football, it was the Cats creating all the chances, with the Jewdinese goalkeeper keeping them in the game time and again, saving from point-blank range as the Cats wasted chance after chance to put the game well to bed.

At the same time, Jewdinese managed only a few half-chances and set pieces in terms of an attacking threat. A long-range effort was brilliantly tipped over by Ben Aroya, but at the other end Catford continued to create chances on the counter and could have had seven or eight were it not for some wayward finishing and an inspired performance from the Jewdinese keeper.

In the dying seconds, Jewdinese hit the bar from a corner, the ball bouncing down onto the line before being cleared to Sinai who took it past the keeper who had advanced almost to the halfway line and putting it into the open net.

Catford captain Adam Luria told JC Sport: "This was a deserved win, full of heart and an absolute hatful of chances created.

"Jewdinese certainly gave us our toughest test of the season - they are a very good team - but we have the belief that we can now get a result from any game.

"It was a superb team performance with all 13 players who pulled on the shirt today giving their all; fighting for every header and tackle, rarely, if ever wasting a pass and showing the spirit that has made this a great start to the season."
