South west success for Head

articlemain

Shachar Head believes she has turned the corner after claiming the women’s title at the South West mid-year competition in Plymouth.

Peer, who is based in Devon, excelled at the event, under the auspices of the British Drug Free Powerlifting Association. Performing for the first time since recovering from glandular fever, she registered a personal best of 147.5kg in the squat and 82.5kg in the bench press.

She also hoisted a 162.5kg deadlift before backing out of a third lift to save her body for the rigours of the Four Nations in August where she has been selected to captain the ladies in the England squad.

For Head these lifts also saw her claim a new British record in the T3 18–19-year-old category.

Head said: "I can now look forward to the Four Nations with some real hope."
