Greater Manchester Amateur Cricket League
South Manchester 149-7
Haughton Green A 102-all out
South win by 47 runs

Akiva Lieberman starred with bat and ball as South Manchester’s superb start to the season continued with a 47-run win over Haughton Green A.

Last year’s Player of the Season hit 35 and then took 4-13 as Steve Glicher’s men built on their crushing victory against Manchester Maccabi.

Despite a slow start, David Cohen’s impressive 46 and Dan Lieberman’s 21 helped South record 149-7 as they just missed out on their final batting point.

Haughton Green began their response in confident fashion, but some inspired bowling by Josh Oeley soon had them reeling.

Oehley claimed two wickets in two balls, while Shaya Rabinovitz finished with figures of 3-18 as Haughton Green slumped to 102 all-out.

Club captain Glicher was delighted with his side’s performance and insists they can look forward to the rest of the season with great confidence.

He said: “This was a great team performance with everyone contributing in some way, and bodes well for the season.”

Meanwhile, Manchester Maccabi slumped to a 65-run defeat at Trinity Cricket Club.

Stuart Simpson impressed with the ball, taking 3-35 with Daniel Franks, Jame Benjamin, Alex Benjamin and captain Ray Tammam also in the wickets.

But Maccabi were unable to chase down 149-5 and were bowled out in 25 overs for just 84 with Tammam unbeaten on 39.
