It was a case of after the Lord Mayor’s show for South Manchester as having beaten high-flying Mace last week they came down to earth with a bump against rock bottom Accenture who had not won a game all season-until Sunday.

The weather played havoc with the pitch and the quagmire conditions were always going to be an issue in light of South's Passing game.

The first half saw chance after chance come and go as Hirshon, Yaffe, Peppi and Chaytow missed relatively simple chances.

Accenture played on the break and only two saves by keeper Rabbett and a fantastic last-ditch tackle by Jack Rowe prevented South going behind.

At half time manager Darryl Lee reiterated his pre-match warning that this was a classic mugging in the making-poor pitch, poor weather and supposedly inferior opposition. His words were to prove prophetic.

South were still on top and whilst chances were fewer they still dominated possession. After 70 minutes Ben Peppi and Ric Hershon combined for Hershon to chip the keeper from 15 yards.

The lead was short-lived, however, as Accenture scored a fine goal on the break to equalise with 10 minutes remaining.

South continued to press and sub Joey Lazare missed the target when well placed.

Incredibly, with three minutes remaining, the inevitable happened and after a shot came back off the post Accenture scored and celebrated as any team would do knowing they had won their first game in 15.

Unfortunately South are now back in the relegation tussle and with seven games remaining probably still need a couple of wins to be safe. Their inability to score may yet come back to haunt them.

South Manchester host unbeaten Miam Miam at the Armitage on Sunday.
