South Manchester 1st team to play in Chesman League next season

Jonny Davis admits South Manchester Sports Club’s first team are relishing a new challenge after changing league.

South Manchester have been represented in the Manchester Accountants League for over 30 years and first lifted the trophy in 2005, under the management of club legend Andrew Cohen and Vice-Chairman, Neil Collins.

The club’s confirmed the first team will be entering the Chesman League, The Cheshire and Manchester Sunday League, for the 2016-2017 season.

Club chairman Davis said: "The first team is constantly improving and under Paul Kirkham and Neil Collin and the boys are relishing a new challenge and look forward to replicating the success we had in the Chesman League, where we won the Supplementary Cup back in 1984/85."

Mr Davis went on to pay tribute to the league’s chairman, John Wright, who welcomed South Manchester over three decades ago. He said: "We must thank John Wright, not only for his hard work year on year, but for supporting South Manchester over the years.

"When we first joined the Accountants League, they were one of the few leagues that welcomed us, as a Jewish team, and we will never forget that here."

South Manchester well enter the second division and will begin their promotion bid in September.
