articlemain

Steve Solomon rounded off a memorable year by winning the Athletics Australia junior athlete of the year award.

Solomon, who is 19 and from Sydney, reached the final of the 400m at the London 2012 Olympics. A late inclusion for the Australian squad, he clocked the three fastest times of his life, including a PB of 44.97 seconds in the semi-final.

Solomon, who is currently on a scholarship at Stanford University, has been selected for next year's Australian Flame team at the 2013 IAAF World Championships in Moscow.

He said: "London was a very special experience that has certainly increased my appetite for success. Having now proven to myself that I can match it with the best in the world, I am greatly looking forward to another successful campaign in 2013.

"The quality of athletes and support staff around me has nurtured my development as an athlete, and crafted how I approach major championships. I feel that each championship is adding something new to my running and I can’t wait to see how Moscow plays out."
