London Lions returned to winning ways by securing their sixth consecutive victory in the HSCL over lowly Sarratt at Rowley Lane.

Following their early exit in the FA Vase, the Lions came up against determined opponents who belied their position in the Premier Division table. Home fans arrived expecting a comfortable win, but Sarratt’s results show they are no pushovers and so it turned out.

Lions probed the away defence time and again, but couldn’t find the opener. James Gershfield blazed over and was then denied by a good low stop, Josh Kennet and Austin Lipman also had shots saved and it looked like the ghosts of last week’s failure to score were still haunting Lions; while at the other end David Myers had to punch a couple of dangerous crosses clear.

It was moments before half time when Lions eventually found their way through. CHARLIE KASLER picked up the ball 20-yards out and curled a beauty into the far right hand corner to break the deadlock.

Lions momentum carried through to the second half, and Kennet found GERSHFIELD whose first effort thundered off the foot of the post, only for him to collect the rebound and make no mistake in doubling the lead.

Whilst Lions continued to play on the front foot, the game returned to some stout defending and lack of the final pass denying any further goals – Adam Burchell coming closest when the impressive Adam Lipman sent in an inviting cross only for Burchell to send the ball into the keeper’s grateful arms.

At the other end, Lions almost lost their first clean sheet of the season after a misplaced pass sent the Sarratt striker clear, but Nick Landesberg and Myers covered the danger and kept the team’s first shut-out of the season, while securing another valuable three points.
