Shirley took the honours at the Ladies National Tournament for the UK Jewish Golf Clubs and Societies,

The Birmingham club won several titles, including the main trophy of the day – the Team Gross – at Coombe Hill in Kingston, Surrey.

Rising star, Katrina Gani, 17, claimed the Singles Gross Trophy with an score of 79.

The Shirley team also won the Fourball Gross, the Combined Singles & Fourball Nett, while Yen Pham was victorious in the Singles Nett, finishing with a score of 78.

A total of 77 lady golfers from 11 teams competed, with Coombe Hill collecting the Singles Gross runner-up, the Singles Nett runner-up, the Fourball Gross runners-up and the Team Nett Trophy.

Edmondstown won the Fourball Nett and the Combined Singles and Fourball Nett, while Dunham Forest won the Fourball Nett runners-up and Dyrham Park won the Team Fourball Nett.

This event, now in its 18th year, has become a permanent fixture in the Jewish Ladies golfing calendar, and is the only competition where ladies from Jewish Golf Clubs and Societies all over the UK and Ireland have a chance to compete with each other.

The teams this year were: Abridge, Coombe Hill, Dyrham Park, Dunham Forest, Edmondstown, Hartsbourne, Lee Park, Moor Allerton, Shirley, Whitefield and a Combined Societies Team.

Every year the host club provides an excellent dinner for all the competitors on the evening prior to the Tournament. This year the catering team at Coombe Hill surpassed themselves with a delicious meal which provided a great social gathering for everyone involved.

The Tournament was a fantastic success and the members of Coombe Hill showed off their magnificent golf course and clubhouse for this prestigious event. After a very wet winter, the greenkeeper was commended by officials for "doing an amazing job preparing" this challenging golf course for a major competition.

The weather started off with some bright sunshine but in the afternoon thunder and lightning brought a temporary halt to the competition and play had to be suspended. After an hour the competitors were able to get back on the course to finish their rounds. Coombe Hill is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful golf courses in the country and at this time of the year the rhododendrons were in full bloom and the course looked spectacular.

The competition is staged alternately in London and the Provinces and will be held next year for the first time at Edmondstown Golf Club in Dublin on May 21.
