Shirley hit eighteen

Shirley Park made a barnstorming start to the season, crushing Team JLGB 18-0 in Division Three.

Six goals from summer signing Saul Conway plus four from Nicky Plotnek opened the floodgates. Stefan Benfredj (2), Sacha Benfredj (2), Simon Shelley (2), Adam Redhouse and Dan Mitman completed the rout in one of the most one-sided Maccabi League matches in years.

Shirley Park joint player-manager David Lusman said: "Fair play to Team JLGB - they never gave up and played the game in good spirit."

Rob Silverman, the JLGB boss, commented: "Shirley Park are an excellent team with technically-gifted players. They are clearly in the wrong division. We were completely outclassed."
