Shaziri shoots bronze at Rio Paralympics

Israel is celebrating its second medal at the 2016 Rio Paralympics after Doron Shaziri won bronze in the en’s R7-50m Rifle 3 Positions.

Shaziri, a former IDF sniper, followed in the footsteps of rower Moran Samuel by capturing a top three finish in his competition.

A veteran of the competition, Shaziri, 49, secured his eighth career medal at the Paralympics - he has medalled in every games since Atlanta 1996. Bronze added to his tally of He has four silver and three bronze.

"I'm still very excited," said Shaziri. "Nothing is ever certain ahead of time and I've had a weak year so far and yet I still made it to the podium. This was my best competition this year."

"This took a lot of psychological work, technique, and keeping my nerve. But today I succeeded because I was able to stay calm."

Shaziri was Israel's flag-bearer at London 2012.
