Sharpe: We can stop Haroldeans

Sporting JLGB boss Gavin Sharpe has sent runaway league leaders Haroldeans a warning ahead of Sunday’s showdown.

The Sporting boss is adamant his side can become the first in the MJSL to get the better of the Merseysiders this season.

Haroldeans have stormed to the top of the table after winning all seven of their league games but Sharpe is backing his boys to cause an upset.

“We’re not scared of anybody in this league and we know we’re fully capable of beating Haroldeans,” he said. “We are a team who are renowned for stopping streaks and preventing teams from winning trophies and we want to keep that up.

“We know all about Haroldeans and the threats they pose but if we can get our best team out there and play to our potential then I know we can beat them.”

Sporting are looking to bounce back from the 2-1 defeat by Republic of Mancunia 1st in the Harold Freedman Trophy. Jonny Alexander and Paul Basger were on target for Republic.

South Manchester 2nd eased into the last eight of the cup following a 2-1 win over Hyde Park Rovers with Jack Lee scoring twice.

South Manchester 2nd will now face Manchester Maccabi 3rd in the quarter-finals after Jake Rubens hit a hat-trick to see off Broughton 3-0.

In the MJSL, Crumpsall came from behind to defeat Leeds Maccabi 3rd 5-3 thanks to Frenchie Freedman’s hat-trick and a double from Gavin Bollel.

Jonny Davies and Simon Finkelstein were both on target as Oakill Lions saw off Republic of Mancunia 2nd after Blake Englander had given the visitors the lead.
