Selwyn wants Leeds response

articlemain

Ian Selwyn has urged his Leeds Maccabi side to shake off their ‘bridesmaids’ tag and finally end their wait for silverware.

The Leeds boss was left frustrated following his side's 2-0 defeat by MJSL league leaders Republic of Flxiton.

Maccabi wasted a whole host of chances and were punished as goals from Rob Jacobs and Adam Tauber sent Selwyn’s side spinning out of the competition.

But the Leeds boss is desperate for his boys to bounce back and prove they can cope with the pressure by finally getting their hands on a trophy.

“A lot of the lads are coming up to the end of their careers and nobody wants to finish without winning something,” he said.

“A lot of these players have been together for five or six years and have always been the bridesmaids and never the bride.

“We lost out in two semi-finals last year and I think they’re just desperate to win a trophy in any league or competition.

“Perhaps the desperation got the better of us against Republic because we were by far the better team and got mugged.

“Their goalkeeper was the difference and when he’s the man of the match then you know who the better team was.

“A mark of a good team is how they respond though and we have to be ready to go again next week.

“We’re still in four cup competitions and we’re second in the league so hopefully this season we can finally win something.”
