Selwyn thrilled with 'outstanding' Leeds

Leeds Maccabi 1st produced an ‘outstanding performance’ according to boss Ian Selywn to book their place in the third round of the Leeds and District Sunday Cup.

Maccabi ran riot against Bradford-based Cuedos Rangers as they warmed up for next weekend’s Peter Morrison Cup clash with MJSL league leaders Haroldeans.

Josh Rose, Richard Black, Marcus Edge and Dave Woolman all scored before the hour mark to give Maccabi a four-goal lead.

And despite allowing Cuedos back in to the game after conceding two quick goals, Robert Selwyn struck with ten minutes remaining to seal the win.

“We were outstanding,” said boss Selwyn.

“We’re playing some great football and running into a bit of form at the moment and I’m really pleased with the boys.

“I’m pleased with their focus at the moment and we’ve really got our act together.

“We’re playing some really good football and we look a strong outfit at the moment.

“It’s nice to be able to go into next week’s Morrison match full of confidence.”

Maccabi made a fast start against a Cuedos side which had defeated the club’s second team 5-0 in the previous round.

Rose opened the scoring following good work by Woolman before Black hammered home from the edge of the penalty area after half an hour.

Oshri Amar missed a golden opportunity to get his name on the scoresheet before Woolman added a third with a stunning drive.

Defender Edge grabbed the fourth with a spectacular 25-yard drive into the top corner as Maccabi carved Cuedos open once again.

A flurry of substitutions disrupted Maccabi’s rhythm and allowed Cuedos to claw back two quick goals as they attempted to take the game into extra-time.

But Robert Selwyn’s late strike killed off any comeback hopes and gave his father plenty of reasons to smile.

“It’s a real boost for us ahead of next weekend which will be a very difficult game,” added boss Selywn.

“I know we lost last week but we played really well and it’s all starting to come together now.”
