Schools' fast track to success

articlemain

King Solomon and JFS took the honours at Maccabi GB’s annual secondary schools track and field day at Copthall, North West
London.

Five schools including JFS, Hasmonean, Immanuel College, Yavneh College and King Solomon braved the bad weather with more than 150 girls battling it out in the the 70m hurdles, 100m, 300m, 800m, long jump, javelin, shot put and 4x100m relay.

There was nothing to choose between the Year Eight athletes from JFS and King Solomon School as both teams ended the morning level on points and shared the trophy.

The rain had eased up by the afternoon and the decision was taken to include the high jump competition for the boys as well as the 1,500 metres. The boy’s tournament featured a similar number of participants with JFS pupil Richard Goodman producing a spectacular run in the 1,500 metres.

JFS were named overall winners in the girls tournament while King Solomon took the honours in the boys tournament.

Attention now turns to the next Maccabi GB event, which is the girl’s rounders tournament to be held at Immanuel College School.
