Salford second after taking on Manchester Maccabi

articlemain

Salford clinched the runners-up spot in the NJCL by the narrowest of margins after beating Manchester Maccabi.

A low-scoring contest saw Salford run out victors by 40 runs. They claimed 18 points to Maccabi's seven.

Batting first, Salford posted 146-8. Maccabi were skittled for 106.

The day's other match saw Leeds beat Bury & Whitefield by 10 wickets.

Leeds put Bury into bat on a damp slow wicket and were made to work for their wickets.

With a full complement of players, Bury put on 36 for the first wicket. Zevi Saunders was bowled for 22 while Shua Dansky anchored the innings, batting 23 overs for his 19.

Bury looked good at 64-2 but Daniel Goldsbrough and Goldstone took six wickets between them to ensure Bury had their traditional collapse with no other batsmen able to reach double figures. Bury were dismissed for 94.

In reply, Simon Williams was dropped at square leg on two, and that proved the turning point as he went on too pass 50 with a superb display of strokeplay.

Goldsbrough chipped in with 39 to ensure Leeds ran out easy victors with 15 overs to spare. Williams finished the season with an average of 104.2.
