Ben Sahar has admitted that he made a mistake joining Chelsea so early in his career.

Having completed a loan move to Dutch side De Graafschap last week, Sahar, 19, conceded that he has failed to lived up to expectation.

“I wanted to move to the Netherlands as young players get the chance to develop here,” said Sahar. “At 17 I decided to move to Chelsea and Jose Mourinho gave me my debut in the Premier League.

“Subsequently, many people expected a lot of me, especially in my own country where I can’t walk quietly on the streets.

“If you would look back I should not have made a move directly to such a big club as Chelsea.”

Sahar also accused former Portsmouth boss Harry Redknapp of being unprofessional during a loan spell.

“I realised I’d have a hard time making the starting XI but I never thought I wouldn’t even get a chance,” he said.

Israel striker Elyaniv Barda has been linked with a £2 million move to Everton. Barda, 27, recently signed a contract extension at Racing Genk until 2013 but could be tempted by Premier League football.
