CATFORD & BROMLEY MACCABI 2 CHIGWELL ATHLETIC 10

Richard Slater praised his Chigwell Athletic team who overcame an early scare to romp to victory against a Catford team missing several regulars.

A shock looked on the cards early on when the Cats scored after 10 minutes, but once Chigwell equalised the result was never in doubt.

Chigs boss Richard Slater told JC Sport: "After a ropey first 15, once we settled into the game, we were excellent and ruthless today. It was enjoyable to watch."

In the end, braces from Doron Weinstein, Hadley Silver and James Jaconelli plus one apiece from Bradley Gayer, Paul Lenchner, Glenn Davis and an own goal completed the rout in a game Chigwell led 3-1 at the interval.

Tom Preveser and Jamie Sinai netted for Catford.

Catford captain Adam Luria told JC Sport: "For 30 minutes we were 1-0 up and with chances to go further ahead it looked like a shock could be on the cards. Then Chigwell scored 3 quick goals and our heads dropped.

"We pulled it back to 4-2 at one point but in truth for the last hour we just weren't up to the task.

"If you have an off day in the league you can expect to still be in the game, but play badly against a very good team two divisions above you and you're going to get punished. That's exactly what happened.

"Still, we'll view it as a free pass in a competition in which we weren't ever going to pull up any trees and in the dressing room after the whole squad was already looking forward to next week. We'll be looking for a massive Cats backlash to get today out of our systems."
