Rep team out of luck

articlemain

The JC MSFL rep team bowed out of the London Inter-League Cup in cruel fashion when they were denied a place in the final due to a one-goal inferior goal difference.

Jonathan Kestenbaum’s troops were unbeaten in the competition after claiming a win and two draws, but having finishing their group they were eliminated after the Woolwich & Eltham League pipped them to the post after finishing 2-2 against the London & Kent Border League.

Kestenbaum said: “The situation is heartbreaking. We finished joint-top with the same number of points, same goal difference, same head to head - and yet Woolwich went through because even though we had the same goal difference, they scored one goal more.

“However, to have finished joint top and be unbeaten is an unusual achievement and I think the team can be proud of this year’s effort. But there is much to build on and they will come back stronger next season.”
