AJY Redbridge Jewish Care stole the show at the AJY football awards at JFS in Kenton, North West London.

The Essex club won three awards after winning the league and cup double with their Under 16 side and the Red Group championship which went to the Under 10 team.

Under 16 captain Marcus Starr said: “This is my third season with the club and it has definitely been my most successful. We are already looking forward to next year. We take our football very seriously and want to try and achieve even more next season.”

Alyth Belsize were also big winners on the night as they took home the trophies for the Woody’s Cup Under 10 and Under 12 competitions.

Nick Sonenfield, boss of HMH Under 16s, was named team manager of the year. AJY secretary Louise Dorling paid tribute to the work of the stalwart following the award of the league’s top individual accolade.

“His genuine love of working with young people and running football teams has ensured his continuing involvement,” she said. “As chairman, he has dedicated himself to the club, ensuring that all aspects including their building, the many adults, youngsters and the teams are dealt with at every level in a business-like, fair, professional and sporting way. His manner is quiet, yet he commands respect.

“His team are not the strongest in the league, nor have they ever been, but they have remained true and loyal, due in no small part to this person’s attitude and manner. As a team manager, he does not yell and scream from the sidelines, he is always polite to his team players and their opponents, his first thoughts are for his team and not for himself. He encourages, he gives endless time and effort, he distinguishes himself as a manager for others to emulate. Winning is not his aim, not his passion, but his team is.”
