Red-hot Haroldeans will be rewarded, says Gee

Ivan Gee is ready to spice things up at Haroldeans after revealing he will treat his stars to curry and a pint after their stunning start to the season.

The Mersysiders have won all seven of their league games this term and sit seven points top of the MJSL after defeating Republic of Mancunia 2nd 5-0 on Sunday.

Red-hot duo Bobby Abrams and James Harris both scored twice and Ali Goldsmith was also on target as Haroldeans proved too much for Paul Levy’s men.

And with no game next Sunday, Gee wants his players to enjoy a spot of team bonding at the Masterchef Indian restaurant on Renshaw Street.

“We’re going to have a bit of team bonding and a night out because the boys really deserve it,” he said.

“They’re playing some great football and even with a patched up side against Republic 2nd they performed very well.

“It has been a fantastic start to the season but there’s still a long way to go.”

Despite losing Cabral Christian to a red card, the second Haroldeans player to be given his marching orders in consecutive weeks, Gee’s men were rarely troubled.

And coach Fraser Saville says the team’s fitness work over the summer has been key to their success.

“We finished fifth last year and that was very disappointing for a club like ours,” he said.

“We brought the lads in for training over the summer as well as some coaches from Liverpool and Everton and that helped too.

“The lads have performed wonderfully well and the hard work is paying off.”

Meanwhile, Republic 2nd boss Paul Levy was left to reflect on a defeat which all but finished his side’s hopes of landing the MJSL title.

“We had to win that game and we didn’t so it’s all over for us,” he said.

“They’re a good side and played some good football. Bobby Abrams scored a stunning goal and I’m happy for him because he’s a nice lad.

“But I did feel the game was marred by the sending off and that’s a real shame.”
