PSV end Hapoel's Europa League hopes

articlemain

A late strike from Kevin Strootman ended Hapoel Tel Aviv’s qualification hopes in Group C following a six-goal thriller against leaders PSV Eindhoven in Holland.

The Dutch team came from two goals down at the break to book their place in the last 32 of the competition.

Omer Damari gave the Dror Kashtan’s troops a shock lead, firing past Andreas Isaksson after 10 minutes before Georginio Wijnaldum equalised two minutes later.

Israel striker Toto Tamuz, who had laid on the opener, helped Hapoel regain the upper hand on 33 minutes following great work by Damari and he pounced again to make it 3-1 two minutes after the break, hammering in the rebound after Isaksson had tipped a header from Walid Badir on to the bar.

PSV finished strongly with captain Ola Toivonen hauling them back to within a goal just shy of the hour mark, firing past the impressive Édel Apoula.

Hapoel were then reduced to 10 men when Roei Gordana was sent off – one of seven yellow cards the Israeli picked up on the night.
