"Israel are ready to return to the second tier of European cricket," according to newly-appointed captain Eshkol Solomon.

The 28-year-old all-rounder will lead the team at the Pepsi ICC Europe Division Three competition in La Manga, Spain. He takes over from Raymond Aston who is unavailable for the round-robin event at the end of April.

"It’s a new chapter for me and a new challenge," said Solomon, who helped Israel win silver at the Maccabiah Games last year.

"It’s a huge responsibility, but we have a pretty good team."

Israel will line up against Belgium, Finland, Spain and Greece – with the team who finishes top of the group earning promotion.

"Spain are favourites," said Solomon. "They’re a very good team and their top-three are excellent, but we’ll arrive with a game-plan and given that the pitches and conditions are similar to Israel, I’m confident we can do well.

"I have fond memories of playing in Spain as last time we reached the final and were promoted to Division Two."

Solomon, vice-captain Yaniv Razpurker and three selectors will select the squad which will be announced at the end of March.
