Shahar Peer is through to the fourth round of the BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells after beating ninth seed Flavia Pennetta of Italy 6-4, 6-7, 6-1.

The Israeli, seeded 17 in the competition will play world No. 9 Jelena Jankovic of Serbia late tonight for a place in the quarter-finals.

In the men’s doubles, Andy Ram and Michael Llodra are into the quarter finals after the Serbian duo of Viktor Troicki and Janko Tipsarevic withdrew from their second round match.

In the singles, Dudi Sela will meet 18th seed Tommy Robredo tonight after beating 14th seed Radek Stepanek in the second round.

This was his best victory since beating Robredo at Wimbledon last year.

Sela said: “I really needed this victory. I've really been struggling against aggressive players like Stepanek and this win has restored my confidence.”
